How we choose music for a situation
We do not begin with a playlist title. We begin with the attention, movement, atmosphere, or safety demands of the activity.
Define the task
Reading and writing compete with lyrics. Routine movement may welcome a stronger pulse. Driving adds safety and changing workload.
Shape the sound
We assess beat clarity, vocal intelligibility, energy, predictability, transitions, loudness, and how familiar tracks affect attention.
Test failure cases
Every answer states when the recommendation stops working. Silence remains a valid outcome.
Curate distinctly
Each activity receives a separate musical payoff. We do not present somebody else’s track list as first-party evidence.
What the numbers mean
BPM ranges on this site are practical selection bands, not universal research findings or performance prescriptions. Tempo interacts with rhythmic feel, arrangement, dynamics, personal response, and the task. When a precise catalogue fact is not verified, we leave it out rather than manufacture authority.
Human review is required
The curator note on every answer page is reserved for Christian Fischer’s first-person experience. It is never generated in his voice. New answer pages should not be published until that field is genuinely written and the playlist metadata is verified.
